Living his dream serving his country as a Marine Aviator, Captain Mitchell lost his life when two helicopters collided while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province in October, 2009. He had volunteered to report early to duty in Afghanistan to assist a unit short on manpower. Each year the classmates of Captain David Seth Mitchell hold a 5K Race to honor his memory and to support the scholarship named for him which is given to a graduating senior who exemplifies his qualities of service, dedication, motivation, charisma and accomplishment.
